Noel Gallagher: Steven Gerrard playing like England’s main man
Former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher heaps praise on England captain Steven Gerrard ahead of quarter-final with Italy

Former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher believes the England captaincy has brought the best out of Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard at Euro 2012.
The 32-year-old will skipper Roy Hodgson’s side against Italy as the Three Lions look to reach their first semi-final at a major tournament since Euro ’96
Gerrard has been in sparkling form for England, with three assists and a series of disciplined displays alongside Scott Parker in midfield.
“[The match against Ukraine] was the best I have ever seen him play for England,” Gallagher told the Daily Star Sunday. “It just goes to show when he is the main man, he plays like the main man.
“He has had a hand in all of England’s goals so far. He has been brilliant, dictating play, taking free-kicks, running the show.”
Manchester City fan Gallagher is also confident England can end their miserable penalty shoot-out record should spot-kicks be necessary to set-up a semi-final against Germany.
The 45-year-old also earmarked Italy’s Andrea Pirlo as the danger man for Hodgson’s side on Sunday night.
“For as long as I can remember [England] has never had such luck,” added Gallagher.
“Now we seem to be getting it for once. I can see our game against Italy being goalless, a grind and us winning on penalties.
“I don’t think England can improve, they can only change the system and play Andy Carroll up front.
“The quality is going to step up tenfold now we are playing Italy and, in Pirlo, they have arguably the best midfield player of the tournament.” ![]()
