Olivier Giroud: I chose to join Arsenal ahead of Chelsea
Olivier Giroud claims he turned down the chance to join Chelsea in favour of a move to Arsenal this summer

Olivier Giroud has revealed he turned down Chelsea in favour of a move to Arsenal because of the club’s “philosophy and stability”.
The 25-year-old striker was officially unveiled as an Arsenal player on Tuesday following weeks of speculation linking the France international with a move to the Emirates.
And Giroud, who netted 25 goals and made nine assists as he helped Montpellier win the Ligue 1 title last season, claims he turned down the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.
“The choice was between Chelsea and Arsenal,” Giroud told TF1. “I chose Arsenal because of the club’s philosophy and stability. It is something that means a lot for me.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger is confident the striker will adapt quickly to life in the Premier League.
“He has a very good physical presence and is exceptional in the air, with a great work ethic,” said the Arsenal boss.
“We are excited about Olivier joining us and he will add an additional dimension to our attacking options next season.
“He has proved that he is capable of performing at the top level with club and country, and we saw what a big influence he was in Montpellier’s championship-winning side last season.” ![]()
