Arsenal are reportedly close to completing a £12m deal to bring Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud to The Emirates this summer.

The 25-year-old scored 21 goals in 36 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit last season, and Arsenal supporters were already fantasising on Twitter about an attacking trio of Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Robin van Persie next season.

Here is some of the reaction to Giroud’s potential arrival.

Arsenal fan Michael Poole ‏(@Michael_Poole_) is excited by Arsenal’s prospective attacking line-up next season: “Arsenal are close to completing a deal to sign Montpellier striker and France international Olivier Giroud for £12m. What a strike force!!”

And Wills (‏@WJSteer) agrees: “Buzzing to see Olivier Giroud come to the Emirates!”

But Ranj Singh ‏(@RanjSingh28) asked the question pursed on every Arsenal supporter’s lips: “Olivier Giroud to Arsenal, great move. He’ll be awesome to watch next season. Robin van Persie replacement?”

And Acid Kagawa ‏(@sideswipeseven) has similar fears: “Arsenal close to completing a deal for Olivier Giroud. They also already sign Lukas Podolski. It looks like RVP might be leaving. I think.”

Meanwhile, Kavit Patel ‏(@kavit_patel) has already devised how Giroud would fit into Arsenal’s team – nickname-wise at least: “Arsenal have Laurent Koscielny, Lukas Podolski, and could have Yann M’vila plus Olivier Giroud – that would mean we’ll have lolo, lulu, lala & lili”

Arsène Wenger is clearly in the mood to spend this summer, according Desmond ‏(@niDezy): “#Arsenal set to sign Olivier Giroud. Wenger seems to be in the mood to sign this time round. Things are really looking up.”

And David Blanco (‏@david99126) believes Wenger will be getting great value: “Olivier #Giroud is set to sign for #Arsenal – great news. £12million transfer fee, sounds cheap for a player of his class. #CantWait”

With Robin van Persie and Lukas Podolski already leading the attack, Joe Ogahi ‏(@Joegrille) can see plenty of goals at The Emirates next season: “Robin van Persie + Lukas Podolski + Olivier Giroud have scored a combined of 69 goals in the league last season. Attack. #AFC”

James Dolton ‏(@Jamesadolton) believes the three forwards will jell well: “Prince Poldi, RVP and Olivier Giroud is a really nice front three, a complement of speed, skill and strength. Three lefties is interesting.”

But Majed ‏(@MisterMajed) isn’t quite convinced by the transfer fee: “Hmm mixed opinions on Olivier Giroud – £12m seems a bit steep on a player that just hopes for the balls to be played to him…”

However, Daniel Morrow ‏(@danielmorrow_) is keen to remind Arsenal supporters of one flop signed from Ligue 1: “For all the #arsenal fans excited about Olivier Giroud, I have two words for you – Marouane Chamakh.”

Finally, Dianna ‏(@Dianna60613) may have seen little of Giroud’s qualities on the pitch, but she’s impressed by his appearance: “The only thing I know about Olivier Giroud is that he’s a rather tasty French dish. How good is he though, worth all the hype?”
