Theo Walcott insisted there is more to come from him at Euro 2012 after his stunning second-half cameo spared England’s blushes against Sweden.

England looked to be in control when Andy Carroll nodded Steven Gerrard’s cross home to edge Roy Hodgson’s men into the lead in the 23rd minute.

But, in a disastrous 10-minute spell after the break, Sweden defender Olof Mellberg squeezed home his finish and then headed in a second to give his country the lead.

England appeared in disarray but substitute Walcott fired home an equaliser from the edge of the box in the 64th minute, before the Arsenal winger’s smart run and cross teed up Danny Welbeck, who flicked the winner past Andreas Isaksson in the Sweden goal.

“To make my first appearance in such a high profile arena means so much to me because it’s been a long time coming,” Walcott told BBC Sport. “Hopefully there’ll be more to come from me.

“I wouldn’t say I was a game changer. Obviously I’ve been disappointed at not having played but I’ve been training hard and it’s not about the starting line-up, it’s a squad thing and it’s a great result.

“I was sharp warming up and you need to be sharp on the pitch because at this level it’s always really tough.”

The victory, England’s first over Sweden in a competitive fixture, means the Three Lions need only a point from their final Group D game against Ukraine to book a spot in the quarter-finals. Sweden, meanwhile, are eliminated after suffering defeats in their opening two games.
