Tottenham have confirmed Croatia defender Vedran Corluka has left Spurs to join Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow.

The 26-year-old scored one goal in 109 appearances for Tottenham after the defender joined from Manchester City in a £8.5m deal in 2008.

Corluka made a promising start to his career in north London, earning 34 appearances in his first season – but the right-back fell behind England’s Kyle Walker in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Unhappy at the lack of first-team football, Corluka was loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen in January and made eight appearances for the Bundesliga outfit before returning to Spurs this summer.

He will link up with Slaven Bilic, who had agreed to leave his position as Croatia’s manager and take the reins at Lokomotiv after Euro 2012.

“We have reached agreement with Lokomotiv Moscow for the transfer of Vedran Corluka,” read a Tottenham statement. “We wish Vedran all the best for the future.”

Tottenham are yet to appoint a successor to Redknapp who was sacked in June but despite being managerless, Ajax boss Frank De Boer claimed earlier in the week that defender Jan Vertonghen is on the verge of joining the club.

“We’re very close. But if the deal isn’t done, Jan must start his training next week with us,” De Boer said. “Eventually, I expect the deal will be done. I expect everything will be alright.”
