Alan Pardew expects quiet summer of transfer activity for Newcastle
Alan Pardew admits he does not envisage making many new signings at Newcastle United during the summer transfer window

Alan Pardew admits Newcastle United will not be bringing in many new faces during the summer transfer window.
The 50-year-old guided the Magpies to a fifth-place finish in their second season back in the Premier League, with the manager lauded for his shrewd acquisitions in the transfer market.
Demba Ba moved to St James’ Park on a free transfer in June 2011, and the Senegal international scored 16 league goals, while his compatriot Papiss Cissé secured an £8m switch to Newcastle in January and netted 13 times.
The Magpies have been linked with a deal for France right-back Mathieu Debuchy in recent weeks, but Pardew has revealed his plan to give some of Newcastle’s youngsters a chance to shine next season.
“I don’t envisage too many coming in because I have got some great young players who have not seen a lot of football,” said Pardew.
“We are going to be leaning on Haris Vuckic and [Shane] Ferguson and Sammy Ameobi a lot more than we did last year, Mehdi [Abeid], who hasn’t really played here too much, so those extra games, I am looking forwards to because we have got a great under-belly of young players here who need games.
“I don’t really want to bring in experienced players just to make my squad bigger, I just want us to be a tight ship, and we will utilise everybody we have at the club.”
The Newcastle manager also conceded the club’s impressive track record in the transfer market means they may be forced to pay inflated fees for targets.
“Possibly, but the market dictates, really,” he added. “It’s all well and good a club asking for an unrealistic figure, but the bottom line is that the price will be the price.
“You have to be patient in the market sometimes to get the man that you want. Nine times out of 10, the two owners get together and it all becomes very realistic. But up until that point, it gets a bit cloudy.” ![]()
