Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists he “can’t wait” to begin his preparations for the new season and claims he even asked to return to Arsenal training early.

The 18-year-old has been on holiday after returning from international duty with England at the European championship, where he was handed his first competitive start for the Three Lions in the group game against France.

And the Southampton youth product insists he is raring to go as Arsène Wenger readies his squad for the new campaign.

“To get back into training, see the boys and play football again – I just can’t wait for it,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Arsenal Player.

“I spoke to the boss and Colin [Lewin] the physio and they said I am in on Thursday, but I asked if I could come in earlier! I just can’t wait to get started again and get cracking with the new season.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who won plenty of new admirers last season after impressing when called upon by Wenger in his first season at The Emirates, says he has gained invaluable experience over the last 12 months.

“I enjoyed every minute of it, it was amazing for me,” he continued. “I have come such a long way – from last season’s pre-season to going away with England in a massive tournament this year.

“I learnt so much from going away to the Euros and it makes you want to strive for more.”
