Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) can’t believe the situation developing at The Emirates: “Podolski & Giroud are NOT adequate replacements for @Persie_Official – this is another catastrophe. We’re officially a selling club #Arsenal. I’m not accepting this, and nor should any #Arsenal fan – Wenger & Gazidis must tell us what they said to @Persie_Official , and say it NOW.”
But Sarah Davies (@SarahDavies86) has a more measured approach: “Not going to hate on Robin van Persie but I’m sad he is leaving, I can’t fault him.”
Aneesh Chandok (@AneeshChandok) warns Van Persie that he won’t receive the same adoration elsewhere: “Robin van Persie – you’ll never be idolised anywhere other than @Arsenal don’t be a fool. One outstanding season and you bigger than Wenger and #AFC?”
Ali Jamal Noory (@ali_jamz) is distraught: “Robin van Persie how could you? We stuck with you through all the injuries, and this is how we get treated in return? So unworthy. Judas.”
Murray Irvine (@IrvineMurray) adds: “Will miss seeing Robin van Persie in that famous red shirt, but no one is bigger than the club! #flyingdutchman”
Arsenal fan Paul Biddiss (@The_North_Bank) is disappointed with Van Persie’s decision: “Eight years at the club. One full season. Made captain. A manager who’s supported him throughout, even when his legs were hanging off. #loyalty”
Denai Moore (@_demore) believes Van Persie should be more patient: “Robin van Persie is an idiot for leaving.. He’s leaving at a time where he could be the difference between a trophy and nothing.”
Emmanuel benjamin (@Itis_Eman) reckons Van Persie could not replicate his Gunners’ form for another club: “Robin van Persie form would be the exact same as it was during this year Euros, he simply cannot perform the same way he does for Arsenal!”
And Aidan Radnedge (@aidanrad) agrees: “And some of us were thinking Robin van Persie *was* committed to staying at Arsenal after all, judging by those displays at Euro 2012.”
While Ryan Leggett (@ryanleggett_94) fears Arsenal may struggle now: “Robin van Persie is not extending his contract at Arsenal! So Arsenal have lost their one man out of their one man team!”
Spurs supporter Scott Delaney (@Scott_delaney15) questions Arsenal’s stature: “Just a feeder club now: “Cesc Fàbregas, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy, Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Adebayor.#NorthLondonIsWhite”
Manchester United fan Akash (@Aakash_Mufc) offers some slim hope: “What if Robin van Persie makes a U-turn just like Wayne Rooney did?”
But Jaii Tai (@JaiiTai) would like to see the Dutchman at Old Trafford: “Oh snap, is Robin van Persie leaving? Imagine him and Rooney up front, bloody hell #SignHimUpFergie #MUFC”
Michael Carter (@Mike_Carter001) can see Van Persie’s reasons for wanting to leave: “Don’t blame Van Perise for wanting to move though. He is a player that deserves trophies. Arsenal always consistent, but not prize winners.”
Joseph Buckley (@What_Joe_Said) is being a tad sarcastic: “Without Robin van Persie’s goals, Arsenal would have finished 16th in the Premier League. Really surprising that he won’t be staying.”
While Dave Bibby (@DaveBibby) makes light of the situation: “BREAKING NEWS: Robin van Persie will take time away from football and focus on healing his back injury after carrying Arsenal for 2 years.”
The parody account of Emmanuel Eboue (@TheRealEboue) is inconsolable: “@Persie_Official why why why?! Why have you left Wenger to suffer another loss again. You would never be the same if you leave. Stay please.” ![]()
