Carl Jenkinson claims there is a buzz around Arsenal after Arsène Wenger’s capture of strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer.

Wenger has strengthened his squad with the additions of Germany striker Podolski from Cologne and Montpellier’s prolific finisher Giroud – and the Finland Under-21 international is excited by the prospect of playing alongside the talented duo.

“They are two world-class players, they are fantastic signings and fantastic assets for this club,” he told Arsenal’s website.

“I am really looking forward to playing alongside them both. Everyone is delighted that we have signed players of that calibre.”

Jenkinson, who broke into Wenger’s first-team last season as the Gunners struggled to cope with a numerous injuries to their back four, made his debut as a second-half substitute in the first leg of Arsenal’s Champions League play-off against Udinese.

And the 20-year-old was also pleased with his start to pre-season after the full-back created Henri Lansbury’s goal to help Arsenal win the Markus Liebherr Memorial Cup on Saturday.

“It was nice to get an assist,” he added. “I always try to get as many as I can, so it was good to get one here.

“Against Anderlecht it wasn’t like we dominated, but I felt we were in control and got that vital goal. But the main thing though was getting minutes under our belts at this stage in pre-season.”
