Chelsea & Man City target Edinson Cavani happy to stay at Napoli

Edinson Cavani has revealed he wants to stay at Napoli despite reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.

The Uruguay international netted home and away against Manchester City in the Champions League group stage and also netted in Napoli’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea in the first leg of their second-round tie.

Cavani’s wife was mugged in Naples last week, prompting reports that he could swap Italy for England, with the striker currently participating at London 2012 with Uruguay’s football team.

“The big English clubs want me? I answer: Forza Napoli! But it is said that English football is art, why not think about it one day if there is that possibility?” Cavani told Il Mattino.

Cavani, who has been valued at £78m by Napoli’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis, admitted that had the person who mugged his wife been a Napoli fan then he would have considered quitting the club.

“It was not a football fan. It is not one of those Neapolitans who, in recent years, have shown me such great affection,” the forward added.

Cavani was part the Napoli side to beat Serie A champions Juventus to win the Coppa Italia in May and claim the club’s first piece of silverware since Argentina legend Diego Maradona inspired Napoli to the league title in 1990.

The 25-year-old has scored 66 goals in 94 appearances for Napoli after moving from Palermo in a €17m (£14m) deal in July 2010.
