Chelsea’s Frank Lampard dismisses talk of LA Galaxy transfer

Frank Lampard has dismissed reports linking the midfielder with a move to LA Galaxy and reiterated his desire to continue his career at Chelsea.

The 34-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire next summer, and the England international was recently pictured at a LA Galaxy match sitting alongside David Beckham, sparking rumours he may be set to move to the Major League Soccer outfit.

However, Lampard, who joined Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001, has no intention of quitting the reigning European champions.

“There’s nothing in that at all. I’m here in Los Angeles on holiday with [fiancee] Christine. We got engaged here last year and we love it over here,” Lampard told the Sun.

“Steve Kutner [Lampard’s agent] is over here a lot on music and football business. He organised a box so we could go to see the Galaxy game.

“Becks was suspended for the match, so he came and sat with us and we had a good laugh – that’s all.”

Lampard endured a mixed campaign last season, with former Chelsea boss André Villas-Boas opting to use the veteran midfielder sparingly, sparking rumours of dressing room tension between senior players and the 34-year-old manager.

Villas-Boas’ dismissal saw his replacement Roberto Di Matteo reinstate Lampard to the first-team on a regular basis, and the Hammers youth graduate played a vital role in their Champions League run which culminated in a victory over Bayern Munich on penalties in the final.

And Lampard is eagerly anticipating the new season and launching the defence of Chelsea’s European crown.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to Chelsea,” he added. “I’m feeling fit and fresh and I’m raring to go.”
