Fabio Borini has revealed the chance to work under Brendan Rodgers again made quitting Roma and joining Liverpool a simple decision.

The 21-year-old became the first signing of Rodgers’ reign at Liverpool, completing a €13.3m (£10.5m) move from the Italian capital to the Merseyside outfit just over a week ago.

Borini, capped once by Italy, scored nine goals in 24 Serie A appearances for Roma last season after he swapped Chelsea for the Giallorossi in August 2011.

The Bologna youth graduate spent six months at Swansea City when Rodgers was in charge at the Liberty Stadium, and he helped the Swans reach the Premier League courtesy of a 4-2 victory over Reading in the play-off final in 2011.

“It [the deal] was done very quickly because I knew the coach and I knew I had his respect,” Borini told Vocegiallorossa.

Reports in Italy suggested Borini, who was part of Cesare Prandelli’s Italy squad for Euro 2012, failed to get on with his team-mates at Roma, acting as further incentive to join Liverpool – but the striker dismissed the rumour.

“My relationship with the dressing room? In my opinion, it was good,” the striker added. “I’ve always been honest with everyone. Like when I said I wanted to stay at Roma, I really wanted to.

“[Roma was] definitely a positive experience for me, because I think I did well this year, even though I had some injuries.

“I think I made myself known as a player and also got in tune with the fans.”
