Jonjo Shelvey: Brendan Rodgers has everyone at Liverpool ‘buzzing’
Jonjo Shelvey says he is excited about the future under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool after signing a new long-term deal

Jonjo Shelvey admits he and his Liverpool team-mates are “buzzing” about the future at Anfield under new manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman took the reins from Kenny Dalglish after the Scot was dismissed at the end of last season and the Reds have been getting their first taste of working under their new manager this week as they returned for pre-season training.
Shelvey, who on Tuesday penned a new long-term deal with the Merseysiders, believes Rodgers’ footballing philosophy is sure to be welcomed by the players and fans alike.
“Everyone is buzzing because he likes to play football. That’s what people want to do and what fans want to see – nice, attractive football,” Shelvey told Liverpool’s website. “Hopefully we can bring that to Anfield this year.
“The gaffer’s also got a big thing about pressing the other teams hard, so I am trying to work on that side of my game as well.
“With all the passing drills, he’s encouraging us to play all the time which is nice for a football player. Instead of doing a lot of long-distance running and things like that in pre-season, everything has been with a ball, which is more enjoyable. Everyone is enjoying training and looking forward to coming in.” ![]()
