Kolo Touré has urged his former Arsenal team-mate Robin van Persie to join him at Manchester City this summer.

The 28-year-old striker this week paved the way for an Arsenal exit by revealing he does not intend to sign a new deal at The Emirates, with just a year remaining on his current contract.

Van Persie, who scored 30 league goals and was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year last season, has been heavily linked with a move to the Eastlands outfit, while Serie A champions Juventus are also reportedly interested in the Gunners captain.

Touré made 326 appearances for the north Londoners during a seven-year spell at Arsenal and the Ivory Coast defender is keen to be reunited with Van Persie at Eastlands, adding that the Dutch forward could help inspire Roberto Mancini’s side to Champions League glory.

“Robin is a top player. I’ve played with him, I know him and he’s a great man,” Touré told the Manchester Evening News.

“At City we have great players and the club does what it wants in transfers. But, for me, if Robin comes it’s great because I know what he can do.

“You have to build your squad every year to do better. To win the Champions League is very difficult as we have seen.”

Meanwhile, Touré has been linked with a move to Turkish club Bursaspor, Paris Saint Germain and the Middle East – but the centre-half reiterated his desire to stay at City.

“If the club wants me, then I’m really happy to stay, otherwise we have to think about something else,” he added.
