Steven Pienaar is on the brink of a return to Everton after the Merseyside outfit agreed a reported £4.5m deal with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The South Africa international moved to White Hart Lane last summer but struggled to break in Spurs’ first-team and was loaned back to the Toffees in January.

The Everton supporters hailed news of Pienaar’s re-signing on Twitter as David Moyes looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Phil Lloyd ‏(@philblueboy) is clearly happy to see Pienaar return: “God is great but Pienaar is better #WelcomeHome Pienaar #EFC#COYB!”

Stephen (‏@ToffeeBlue1878) wants Everton to sign Landon Donovan and Adam Johnson as well as Pienaar: “When we get Pienaar. I want Landon back early or get Adam Johnson on loan – those wingers would provide Jelavic with everything he needs!”

Andy Crook ‏(@AndyJCrook) is shocked to see Everton owner Bill Kenwright spending money: “At last! A fee agreed for Pienaar!! Bill must have raided the vaults!!#efc #coyb”

Everton News Feed ‏(@EvertonNewsFeed) would be happy if the transfer window was to slam shut today: “It’s a given if we sign anyone after Pienaar and not sell anyone that is a MASSIVE Bonus! And a great window #COYB!”

Ryan Traill ‏(@ryantraill) is happy to see Tottenham making a profit: “Everton pay £1.5m more for Pienaar than we bought him for in the first place… #Profit”

Arsenal fan Abhinav ‏(@AbhinavAFC) is impressed: “I’ve made a mistake. Spurs actually bought Pienaar for £3m, barely played him and now sell him back for £4.5m. That’s great business.”

While Andrew Parker ‏(@everton_parker) reckons Spurs chairman Daniel Levy worked hard to get the best possible deal: “Everton agree a fee with Spurs for Pienaar at last. That chairman of theirs drives a hard bargain. Big season from SP a must!”

Tottenham fan Keeno ‏(@hotspurkeeno) is happy to see Pienaar leave: “Good to see Pienaar fee agreed, that’s another space in the squad cleared for new arrivals and a good 70k a week cleared from the wage bill.”

Football Advisor ‏(@Soccer_Advisor) reckons Dutch defender John Heitinga will leave the club after Pienaar’s signing: “#Heitinga looks to be on his way out of Goodison so that #Everton can fund the deal for #Pienaar.#Moyes will be remembered as a legend #EPL!”

Connor Southern ‏(@connorefc19995) is pleased with the deal: “Pienaar coming home sign one more player and then shut the transfer window #coyb!”

However, J Murphyefc ‏(@JamesMurphyefc) urges Kenwright to sign manager Moyes up to a new deal: “I’m glad we are going to sign Pienaar but our most IMPORTING signing we have to do is David Moyes’s new contract!”
