West Ham United have reportedly agreed a £2m fee with Liverpool to take Andy Carroll on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old has struggled since his £35m move from Newcastle United in January 2011, and he now appears set to move to Upton Park next term, with Hammers supporters welcoming the prospect of his arrival on Twitter.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

West Ham fan Ben Howard ‏(@johnnybad1986) says it would be a big signing for the club: “Andy Carroll will be a HUGE player for West Ham. And not just in size. GOALS GOALS GOALS. A sure thing for Fantasy Football this year!”

But Sareet Shah (‏@Sareet_Shah) is confused by the mixed messages from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: “Brendan Rodgers: ‘He can fit into how I want to play, and he is happy here.’ – so then why do you want to sell Andy Carroll? :S”

However, Reché Naidoo (‏@Reche_Naidoo) reckons Rodgers is sure to have a new signing lined up: “Brendan Rodgers won’t let Andy Carroll leave unless he had a replacement! So keen for the replacement! #LFC”

A somewhat optimistic Hammers supporter Sonny Collins (‏@SonnyCollins) wants Carroll to be partnered with Robin van Persie: “Snapped up Andy Carroll now Arsenal have to understand it’s just a matter of time before Van Persie makes a move to us.”

Liverpool fan Lee Kingham ‏(@leekingham1) doesn’t want Carroll to move: “Don’t want Andy Carroll to leave! Every team needs a plan B and he’s that…he was different gravy at the back end of last season!”

Will Corcoran (‏@wicorthered) is critical of Liverpool: “Feel sorry for Andy Carroll, he didn’t ask #lfc to pay 35m, now as he starts to look good Rodgers gets rid without giving him a chance!!”

But Reds supporter Joe Scattergood (‏@JScattergood86) wants to see Carroll to leave Anfield: “As much as I admire Andy Carroll for wanting to stay at #LFC, he has to move for himself as he’d be wasting his and the clubs time!”

Ollie Cantwell ‏(@olliec32) reckons Liverpool would be making a huge mistake if they get rid of Carroll: “Andy Carroll has gone West ham on loan what a signing, Liverpool have made a massive mistake.”

Finally, Mick Keating (‏@MickKeating) wants to know how West Ham can afford Carroll: “How can West Ham afford Andy Carroll when they are over £100 million in debt??”
