London 2012 Olympics: GB’s Andy Tennant feels no extra pressure

You might expect cyclist Andy Tennant to feel the pressure a bit more, considering he is tasked with helping retain team pursuit gold for Great Britain.

Considering he wasn’t part of the team that claimed the Olympic title in Beijing four years ago, Tennant may well feel he has much to prove.

But the Wolverhampton-born 25-year-old believes he has already earned his place at London 2012, and now he has his sights set firmly on gold.

“I watched the lads in Beijing where they gained a lot of their success, and did such a fantastic job out there,” he said.

“The competition for a place on the team is massive. There are five riders and with the Olympic format there’s a good chance of all five of us riding.

“We are probably one of the world’s best teams, we are the world record holders and we won the World Championships in April.

“I don’t feel any extra expectancy or pressure because of what happened four years ago. I have done three Worlds, and at the end of the day it is a different title on the same bike race.

“It is something we do everyday, it’s our job and we are going to go out there and give it our best.

“Nobody comes to the Olympics to get fourth or fifth, we are going for gold. If we don’t achieve it, we don’t achieve it, but we are going to try and do our best.”
