Queens Park Rangers have confirmed former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves will train with the Loftus Road outfit.

The 31-year-old was released by Manchester City earlier this summer after the England international played just 13 minutes of football for Roberto Mancini’s side in the Premier League last year.

Saturday’s announcement prompted a flurry of activity on Twitter – and here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Joseph Butterfield ‏(@Josephb_01) thinks Hargreaves could be a good signing for QPR: “Owen Hargreaves would be really good if kept fit!”

Eric Kamara (@_erickamara) still rates the midfielder despite his injury troubles: “Owen Hargreaves training with QPR he is a free agent, I think he play a lot of his career in Germany achieve a lots, he still great.”

Muffin Man (‏@callumlenk) reckons Hargreaves is world-class when fully fit: “If you keep Owen Hargreaves fit he is one of the best midfielders around. He can win tackles, hit a free kick and spring a pass!”

And Thomas Cumming ‏(@TWC93) has been impressed by Hughes’ signings this summer: “If QPR sign Owen Hargreaves on a pay as you play deal he will be another brilliant signing. Mark Hughes has signed some excellent players…”

Fahmy Marcellus ‏(@PrinceFahmy) hopes Hargreaves can kick re-start his stalling career: “Free agent midfielder Owen Hargreaves is training with Mark Hughes’ Queens Park Rangers.. I wish him well!”

Rais Shane ‏(@raiisy123) points out an unfavourable stat for Hargreaves: “Now Owen Hargreaves is at QPR? What a flop! He’s only played 5 hours & 38 minutes of football since the 2008 CL final! #FLOP#QPR”

Kirk Taylor ‏(@LooseKirk) notices a funny coincidence: “Is it any coincidence that Owen Hargreaves and NHS are treading at the same time? I think not.”

While Tyler Merrick ‏(@Tyl3rTheCr3ator) reckons Hargreaves and QPR midfielder Kieron Dyer have something in common: “Owen Hargreaves excited at the prospect of spending a lot more time with Kieron Dyer and the #QPR medical staff!”

And Ben Nixon ‏(@BenNixon8) reckons QPR’s physios will be kept busy: “I don’t envy QPRs physios. Never any danger of a day off with OwenHargreaves & Kieron Dyer there!”

Efe ‏(@efeliverpool) has the final say: “All jokes aside, Owen Hargreaves is a great player, it’s those continuous injuries that ruined his career honestly he was great at Bayern #sad!”
