Bobby Zamora says Queens Park Rangers’ ambition was the key factor behind his decision to swap Fulham for the Hoops in January.

The 31-year-old has scored two goals in 14 appearances for QPR since moving to Loftus Road, with the England international also joined by former Liverpool forward Djibril Cissé.

The Hoops managed to avoid an immediate return to the Championship on the final day of the season after Bolton Wanderers failed to beat Stoke City as Owen Coyle’s side were relegated.

And Mark Hughes has already strengthened his squad considerably this summer, with England goalkeeper Robert Green and former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung among the notable new arrivals at Loftus Road.

“That’s certainly how the move was sold to me,” Zamora told QPR’s website. “It was a case of getting some more players in, consolidate ourselves in the Premier League and then kick on this season.

“We have added some good players to the squad this summer and my understanding is we are looking to add one or two more as well.

“I am sure the calibre of those players will be brilliant and only strengthen us further.”
