Queens Park Rangers are now famous in Korea, says Park Ji-Sung

Park Ji-Sung claims Queens Park Rangers are now “famous” in Korea after the midfielder completed his switch to the Hoops from Manchester United last week.

The 31-year-old spent seven successful seasons at the Red Devils, with the South Korea international winning four Premier League titles, the League Cup three times and the Champions League in 2008.

Park is joined in the English top flight by compatriot Park Chu-Young at Arsenal and Ji Dong-Won at Sunderland, and the former PSV Eindhoven midfielder revealed the trio have a significant following in Korea.

“In Korea they didn’t know much about QPR. They only focus on Korean players playing for clubs like Man United, Sunderland, Arsenal and Bolton,” Park told West London News.

“But after the last few days a lot of people in Korea now know about QPR and they’re famous. The media in Korea now talk a lot about QPR.”

Meanwhile, Park revealed cash-rich Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande made a big-money offer to sign the former United star, but he decided against a return to Asia and was keen to remain in Europe.

“They offered more money than QPR but for me Europe is still the best place to play so I wanted that challenge.”

QPR manager Mark Hughes described Park’s capture last week as a “huge coup” for the west London club, who are looking to become an established Premier League outfit.

“This is a real coup for QPR,” Hughes said. “We are delighted Ji is going to join us because his record speaks for itself. He has been a big player for Manchester United and played a big part in their success in recent years.

“He is hugely respected there because of what he has achieved, his application to his work and the impact he has on games.

“He was always picked for the big matches because they could rely on him, and we are going to reap all those qualities.”
