Mark Hughes has branded reports linking Queens Park Rangers with a move for Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy as “all speculation” as the Hoops prepare for their pre-season tour of Asia.

The 33-year-old scored six goals in 26 Premier League appearances after the Wales international decided to return to the Reds for a second spell at Anfield from Manchester City last summer.

Bellamy previously worked under his compatriot Hughes at Blackburn Rovers, scoring an impressive 17 goals in the 2005-06 campaign as the Ewood Park outfit secured qualification for the Uefa Cup.

“There has been a lot of speculation over Craig. Yes, I know him very well. But at the moment it is all speculation,” Hughes said.

Hughes, whose side managed to avoid relegation on the final day of last season, has already made a number of additions this summer, including former Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-Sung and England goalkeeper Robert Green.

And the 48-year-old, who replaced Neil Warnock in the hot-seat at Loftus Road in January, believes this summer will be vital in terms of implementing his philosophy and ideas.

“Now I have more time to prepare the side and get the quality players that were lacking before,” added Hughes.

“I can say that QPR has a great future and obviously we will do better than last season. We are confident that we won’t be struggling.”
