Rafael Van der Vaart insists he is likely to stay at Tottenham Hotspur, despite the Holland midfielder being heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a return to Bundesliga side Hamburg in recent weeks, with the Middle East also touted as a possible destination for the Dutchman.

But Van der Vaart has dismissed the rumours as pure speculation and claims he will most likely remain in north London for next season.

“It’s unbelievable how my name is speculated around Europe,” Van der Vaart told German newspaper Bild. “I can only say these are only speculations. I will probably stay at Tottenham.”

Van der Vaart’s comments come after Hamburg boss Thorsten Fink admitted that the Dutchman would be an “ideal fit” for his side.

“We have drawn up a target profile and Rafael van der Vaart would be an ideal fit,” he said this week. Any coach would be delighted to have him.

“Rafael is a very good player and he would be very interesting for Hamburg if we had the money to pay for him. And we are not lacking just a little, we are talking about a great deal of money.”
