Roberto Di Matteo: No concerns over Chelsea’s Fernando Torres
Chelsea head coach Roberto Di Matteo says he expects Fernando Torres to be "buzzing" ahead of the new season

Roberto Di Matteo insists he has “no concerns” over Fernando Torres and has backed the Spain striker to shine at Chelsea next season.
Torres briefly cast his Stamford Bridge future into doubt following the Blues’ Champions League triumph, when he admitted it had been a difficult year for him after only managing 11 goals in 49 appearances for the Londoners and saying would seek assurances from the Chelsea hierarchy over his future role at the club.
But following talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich after the Champions League final, the Spain forward vowed to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
And Di Matteo says he fully expects the 28-year-old, who won the Euro 2012 Golden Boot as Spain retained their crown in Poland and Ukraine, to be “buzzing” ahead of the new season.
“I did speak to Torres after the final, I had a chat with him the morning after and we have been in touch since as well,” Di Matteo told Chelsea’s website.
“It was a feeling he had at the time. There are no concerns about Fernando at all and I am expecting him here in a good mood, buzzing and to be very good next season.
“I was very happy with Fernando [last season]. I said this many times and winning the Euro 2012 Golden Boot, being European champion and the trophies he won with us should give him a lot of confidence – but I was always very happy with him and I expect him next season to be a fantastic player for us.” ![]()
