The 29-year-old has been the subject of interest from Manchester City, Juventus and United this summer as the striker continues to refuse to sign a new deal at The Emirates.

Arsenal supporters reacted with despair to Wednesday’s speculation on Twitter, while United fans dreamed of a line-up including the prolific Netherlands international.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Syafiq Azmi ‏(@SyafiqApek) just wants the saga to be over: “It’s good to hear Robin van Persie has made the decision to join Man Utd. The sooner will be good so that Arsenal can focus for next season.”

While United supporter Kieran Thacker (‏@Kieran_Thacker) wants a marquee signing after Lucas Moura revealed he’s keen on Paris Saint-Germain: “After losing out on Lucas Moura, United definitely need to get Van Persie! It’s a must!”

Ilyas (‏@ily_patel) reckons Van Persie would be a big success at United: “Having Robin Van Persie as an attacking option will strengthen up our style of play, scare defenders because he is difficult to play against.”

Dean Herbert ‏(@deanoherb) thinks the reported fee of £25m would amount to a great deal for the Gunners: “Arsenal are laughing straight to the bank with united signing Van Persie… United are doughnuts!”

And Arsenal fan James Lowe (‏@SurreyGooner) wants Arsenal to accept that sort of money if offered: “Should bite United’s hands off for Van Persie if they offer £25m. Don’t see how he fits in with Rooney?”

Chelsea supporter Ryan ‏(@MrTwatFace) wants to see Van Persie at United: “Even as a Chelsea fan, I hope Van Persie goes to Man Utd. #RVP”

While Luciano Venturini (‏@Luciano93Vent) knows what time of year it is: “You know when you take a quick look at what is trending worldwide and three of them are RVP, Van Persie and United that it’s transfer time!”

But Raza Saeed ‏(@pepperaza) is angered by the reports: “OMG what a traitor!! Please do not say Robin van Persie has gone to United !!”

Aysha (‏@ayshardzn) adds: “I will actually be really shocked if Van Persie really signs for United.”

Joseph (‏@JoeKingley) is perplexed as to why Van Persie would want to leave: “I can’t tell why Van Persie would want to leave… the fans love him!”

Finally, Roly Dickinson (‏@Roly_Dickinson) sums up the emotions of many Arsenal supporters: “Van Persie to United – that’s a kick in the balls to any Arsenal fan!”
