Liverpool flop Alberto Aquilani seals permanent move to Fiorentina
Midfielder Alberto Aquilani brings an end to his frustrating spell at Liverpool by sealing a permanent move to Fiorentina

Alberto Aquilani has ended his disappointing three-year spell at Liverpool by sealing a permanent transfer to Fiorentina.
The 28-year-old had recently expressed his desire to stay at Anfield and compete for a place in Brendan Rodgers’ first-team after spending successive seasons on loan to AC Milan and Juventus.
But a statement on Reds’ website confirmed that the midfielder will be returning to Serie A. It read: “Liverpool football club can today confirm that Alberto Aquilani has completed a permanent transfer to Serie A side Fiorentina.
“The Italian midfielder joined Liverpool in 2009 but made just 28 first-team appearances having spent the last two seasons on loan in his homeland.
“Everyone at the club would like to wish Alberto all the best for the future.”
Aquilani, who was signed by former Reds manager Rafael Benítez in a £17m deal from Roma in 2009, was plagued by injury problems in his first season at Liverpool.
The Italy international, who scored twice for the Reds, will now link up with Fiorentina, who finished in 13th place in Serie A last season.
La Viola’s honorary president Andrea Della Vale hailed Aquilani’s arrival as a huge signing for the Florence club.
“We have managed to seal a deal for Aquilani, who is a Fiorentina player,” said Della Vale. “He is the big name signing that we were waiting for.”
Fiorentina midfielder Francesco Della Rocca backed Aquilani to resurrect his stalling career at the club.
“Alberto is a great player and he will do really well at Fiorentina,” Della Rocca said.
“He wants to bounce back from what has not been a very positive time for him at Liverpool and I am convinced that it will be a big chance for him in Florence.” ![]()
