Southampton have reportedly had a €15m (£11.8m) offer for Gastón Ramírez accepted by Bologna.

The 21-year-old winger scored eight goals in 28 appearances for the Serie A outfit last term, and Liverpool supporters expressed their dismay on Twitter at seeing their long-term target seemingly edge towards a move to St Mary’s.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Aimee Holland ‏(@AimeeHBx) is excited by the prospect of signing Gastón Ramírez: “Oooo Southampton have agreed a club record deal with Bologna for Uruguay international Gastón Ramírez. Come on you Saints :D!!”

Liverpool fan Harry Hesp ‏(@HarryJHesp) wanted Liverpool to sign the Uruguayan: “Southampton signing Gastón Ramírez a real coup, saw him at the Olympics and was hoping #LFC would move for him, linked well with Suarez.”

Mike Anderson (‏@TheMikeAnderson) hopes Ramírez can repeat his performances for Bologna at St Mary’s should he move: “Really excited about Gastón Ramírez to Saints. He’s been brilliant for Bologna. He’ll be a big player for us too, I hope.”

But Alex Forrest ‏(@Alexforrest91) questions the reported £12m fee: “Gastón Ramírez to Southampton!? They will be going down at the end of the season if they blow their entire budget on one player!”

Stefan Anderton (‏@stefananderton) believes Ramírez is too good for Southampton: “Gastón Ramírez on his way to Southampton, he is far too good for that sort of deal! City once gave him a looking at should be at a top six club!”

Liam is my name ‏(@LiamRees1996) is shocked by the reports: “I can’t believe what I’m hearing about Gastón Ramírez going to Southampton?! WAY too good for them!”

But Craig Taylor (‏@Cragswfc) doesn’t reckon Ramírez will be a success: “Gastón Ramírez will be rubbish in the Premier League – he needs loads of time on the ball!”

Jules (‏@julesdavidr) believes the midfielder will be a big hit: “Annoying that Saints seem to be getting Gastón Ramírez. Will be a cracking signing.”

Mersey Reds ‏(@MerseyReds1) is sceptical about the deal: “Gastón Ramírez to the Saints is a good deal for them. My opinion is his agent is looking after himself and not the player on this deal.”

Musa ‏(@Waynealiyu) can’t fathom why Ramírez would choose Southampton ahead of Liverpool: “If Southampton get Gastón Ramírez ahead of Liverpool then something must be really wrong at Anfield!”

Tottenham supporter Paul Drain (‏@pauldrain) wanted the winger at White Hart Lane: “Gastón Ramírez to Southampton! Big signing by them. Spurs should have snapped him up!”

Finally, James Rimmer ‏(@JamesWRimmer) doesn’t think Ramírez would be able to help prevent Southampton from being relegated this season: “Gaston Ramirez will join another club from Southampton next season as he doesn’t want to be playing Championship football – come to Liverpool!”
