Previously 11th overnight, Great Britain boosted their tally with podium places in a range of sports – but it was in the Olympic Velodrome that headlines were made, with Sir Chris Hoy leading the way.

The men’s team sprint trio of Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Sir Chris broke the world record in the final, clocking 42.600sec to beat France and claim gold.

Earlier, Peter Wilson shot his way to gold in the men’s double trap competition at the Royal Artillery Barracks.

Great Britain also took gold (Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott) and silver (David Florence and Richard Hounslow) in the canoe slalom C2 event.

And Judoka Gemma Gibbons sent shockwaves through the sport as she became British Judo’s first Olympic medallist for 12 years with a silver at the ExCeL Arena.
