Taekwondo star Jade Jones admits she began planning for London 2012 glory the minute she won the Youth Olympics title two years ago.

The 19-year-old claimed a dominant gold medal at the ExCeL, beating China’s world champion Yuzhuo Hou 6-4 to land Britain’s first ever Olympic taekwondo title.

It was only in 2008 that the she took up the sport, and two years later she took gold at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Completing her remarkable rise, the Flint lightweight now has the highest accolade available to her name, the title of Olympic champion.

“The Youth Olympics was such an amazing experience and I remember standing on top of that podium and thinking this is where I want to be in London,” she said.

“That inspired me even more, and to have won the Youth Olympics and the senior one is just amazing.

“My coach thinks the amazing thing about me is that I am doing so well, but I have still got so much to give.

“Hopefully there is much more to come for me and I’ll keep training hard and getting better.”
