London 2012 Paralympics: Storey draws inspiration from Olympics

The success of Britain’s Olympic cyclists can inspire Paralympics GB to deliver another home gold rush.

That’s according to two-time Paralympic champion Barney Storey, who will defend his titles in the London Velodrome next week.

The able-bodied Storey, a tandem pilot, claimed time trial and sprint gold in Beijing, and will ride with Neil Fachie, who suffers with a congenital eye condition.

The 35-year-old, who is married to fellow Paralympic cyclist Sarah Storey, is convinced the British squad can prosper once again.

“After the Olympics and the excitement that was created – particularly around the cycling – it is going to be fantastic to compete in the Velodrome in London with the support of the home crowd,” said Storey.

“It was inspirational to see how Sir Chris Hoy and the others did and hopefully we can deliver as a team as well.

“As athletes we are an incredibly talented group. The process of British cycling nurtures that talent to get the best out of us.

“That is why we are so successful, it is pretty simple. Every detail is looked at to make sure we are exactly where we should be.

“The experienced athletes in the team can also help the newer athletes so that everyone is in a position to win medals.”
