Javier Hernández insists he is relishing the chance to learn from summer signing Robin van Persie at Manchester United.

The Netherlands international scored his first United goal in the 3-2 victory over Fulham on Saturday after completing a £24m move from Arsenal to Old Trafford earlier in August.

Sir Alex Ferguson now has Hernández, Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Dimitar Berbatov as his attacking options for United, and despite the increased competition, the former Guadalajara striker insists he sees the 29-year-old’s arrival as opportunity for the Mexican to improve.

“Yes, of course [Van Persie’s signing is exciting],” Hernández told United’s website.

“I think in life you never stop learning, no matter what age you are. I try to learn from all my team-mates, but obviously it’s great to watch the other strikers in particular.

“They have all helped me a lot and I know I will learn a lot off Robin because he is a world-class striker who has a lot to give to the team and a lot to teach us all.”

He added: “I think for people that just love football Robin is like Wazza and other top players, you just need to see them play.

“Even if you’re not a United fan, you should watch players like Robin and Wazza because they are world class.

“Robin is someone I have always enjoyed watching – he did a lot of great things for Arsenal and we want him to do the same for us.”

Van Persie scored 132 goals in 277 appearances for Arsenal after joining from Feyenoord in a £2.75m deal in 2004.
