The 25-year-old has scored 64 goals for the Serie A outfit over the past two seasons, but Chelsea supporters on Twitter were split over whether Roberto Di Matteo should be targeting the forward.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Adekanmbi Adebayo ‏(@vanboyosky) would prefer Chelsea signed Radamel Falcao over Cavani: “Falcao over Cavani any day. Please Chelsea, Falcao not Cavani as back up for Torres!”

Lewis Goodinson (‏@lewisgoodo) is a big fan of Hulk: “Chelsea have given up on Hulk but now want Cavani? Forget that, just pay the money for Hulk!”

While Aayush Sidd ‏(@ayush_1901) is eye a prospective line-up: “Cavani, Mata, Hazard, Torres – Front four if that happens. Very, very light on defence on the wings.”

Back of the net ‏(@Backofthenet08) believes a move for Cavani makes sense: “@CarloFan We need a striker and with Hulk and Falcao too pricey he would make sense. Cavani or Llorente would be ideal but time will tell.”

CarloFan (‏@CarloFan) would be surprised if Chelsea signed Cavani: “For those asking whether Cavani will happen. Who knows?! Reports suggest we are interested. Personally I’d be shocked if it did.”

Ben Lefevre (‏@BengLeFevre) doesn’t see the point of signing Cavani: “Not sure about Cavani link. I don’t see point if they want anything out of Torres this year. I reckon if he’s not scoring by January then buy. #cfc”

Pàváńòvįč ‏(@SynysterChels) is not a fan: “Cavani is so wasteful. It annoys me.”

While Izzoh ‏(@guzlah_cfc) is similarly unconvinced: “I’ve never been convinced by costly strikers. That’s why I don’t like Hulk or Cavani. Can’t #Cfc learn from Papiss Cisse, Nikica Jelavic?”

And Gus Mears (‏@Romansbluearmy) can’t see the Uruguayan leaving Naples: “Cavani would be good value at the £30m mark but I can’t see Napoli selling at that price. He’s 25, one of Europe’s best and happy in Naples.”

Jordyyy J (‏@JordanJames94) reckons Cavani is worth £30m: “Am I the only Chelsea fan that likes Cavani ? £30m…. #Bargain!”

Alex (‏@alexfallows) believes Cavani could be a long-term replacement for Didier Drogba: “To be fair, Cavani would fit into the Chelsea squad really well, I mean he is a faster and younger Drogba!”

TheChelseaLover (‏@abdullatif_CFC) is excited: “WoW !! Just thought about how strong will be Chelsea if we sign Cavani and Azpeculita !! Plus Moses .. we will win the title!”

Finally, The Mic Ali (‏@The__MykaLi) asks a good question: “I wonder if Cavani and Torres can play together?”
