The 24-year-old has scored 21 goals in 52 appearances for the Reds after joining from Ajax in January 2011, and Liverpool supporters voiced their approval on Twitter after seeing Suárez commit to the club.

Here are some of the Tweets that caught our eye.

Liverpool defender José Enrique (‏@jose3enrique3) is thrilled for his team-mate: “Congratulations to Luis Suárez for his new contract. He really deserves it.”

Attack of the Kop ‏(@AttackoftheKop) praises Suárez’s bravery: “Massive credit to Luis Suárez. He’s going to be booed in every away ground in England, but still *pledges* his long term future with #LFC.”

And Positive_LFC (‏@LFC_23) is pleased: “Great news about Luis Suárez signing a new ‘long term’ contract. Nice to see he’s dedicated to the clubs cause. #LFC”

Jordan Carroll (‏@Jord_0708) keeps it succinct: “Luis Suárez signed new deal, get in!”

While Paul Ormond (‏@PaulOrmond) is revelling in the frustration of Liverpool’s rivals: “Love how annoyed everyone is they have to put up with Luis Suárez for several more years! #lfc”

And Lawrence (‏@LawreNash1) hopes it will put an end to the Juventus rumours: “I am really happy Luis Suárez pens a strong new contract to scare off the likes of Juventus and all!!!!!”

Georgie Lewis (@georgielewis_1) wants Arsenal’s captain to take note: “Think @Persie_Official should take note of Luis Suárez. Has A LOT more going on in his career and a better reason to leave but hasn’t!”

Luth Sammana (‏@luth_alfaridzi) hopes Daniel Agger and Craig Bellamy follow suit: “Wish Daniel Agger and Craig Bellamy would too… RT @LFC: Luis Suárez signs new contract: http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/suarez-signs-new-contract #LFC”

Peter McDowall ‏(@Petermcdowall10) is impressed by Suárez’s shout out to the club’s fans: “Touch of class from Luis Suarez thanking fans – few places leave a lasting impression on people like Liverpool. That’s why so many come back.”

But Matthew Lumby ‏(@MatthewLumby) doesn’t feel as positive: “Am I the only Liverpool fan that’s not delighted that Luis Suárez has signed a new contract? #LFC #YNWA”
