André Villas-Boas insists Tottenham won't sell Luka Modrić for less than the club's asking price amid interest from Real Madrid

André Villas-Boas insists Tottenham Hotspur will not sell Luka Modrić until their valuation of the playmaker is met.
The 26-year-old, who refused to travel on Spurs’ pre-season tour of America, is eager to leave White Hart Lane amid interest from La Liga champions Real Madrid.
And although Villas-Boas insists the club are trying to sort out the midfielder’s future, the Portuguese coach says the north London outfit will not sell the playmaker for below their asking price.
“The player has to understand that the club can’t do anything about other clubs’ offers, we have a value and an interest that we have to defend and we are waiting for if the offer is not met to re-integrate the player,” Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News.
“We’ll try to solve it as soon as possible, obviously its the second time Luca has passed through this situation.
“It’s obviously difficult for him but the chairman is defending the club’s interest and value.”
Villas-Boas, who replaced Harry Redknapp as Tottenham boss in June, is optimistic Modrić will continue to be involved in first-team affairs despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at White Hart Lane.
“The player has to understand that we want also to look at this current situation, but the fact that the offer doesn’t meet the chairman’s demands means we cannot do anything and the player is a good professional, and hopefully he will return to the team,” added Villas-Boas.
Modrić has scored 17 goals in 159 appearances since joining Spurs from Dinamo Zagreb in a £16.5m deal in 2008. ![]()
