Luka Modric said he is braced for the biggest challenge of his career after finally sealing a transfer to Real Madrid.

The former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker, who has signed a five-year deal with the club, had been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabéu all summer and the 26-year-old passed a medical with the La Liga champions on Monday.

“I’m really happy to be here,” Modric said on Monday. “I’m looking forward to playing with the team. This is a big challenge for me, the biggest challenge of my footballing career.

“I’m sure I’ll succeed and that’s it. I got everything what I need: here best coach in the world, best players and I just need to enjoy and play my football.”

Modric added: “I just want to thank Tottenham. I spent four great years there. I enjoyed every moment.

“I would like to thank to all people that makes my life and my family life easier in London.

“There is no hard feelings from my side and I think is the same from Tottenham. This is a new page in my life.”
