Belgian Grand Prix 2012: Anything is possible, declares Jenson Button
Belgian Grand Prix 2012: Jenson Button refuses to rule himself out of title contention following his victory at Spa on Sunday
Jenson Button insists he still has a chance of winning this season’s world championship title after securing his second victory of the season at the Belgian Grand Prix.
Sunday’s triumph moves Button up to sixth in the drivers’ standings, 63 points behind leader Alonso. And although Button admits he remains a “massive long shot” for the title, the Briton is refusing himself out of contention ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
“It’s a massive long shot to win the title but today proves that you can claw back 25 points very very quickly,” Button said.
“It’s a great day for me, but I’m still 63 points [behind]. Anything is possible.
“Monza is a circuit like this in a way, so there’s a good possibility that we will have good pace there. Whether we will be as competitive as we were here we still have to wait and see.
“The temperatures will be different – it is a little bit different in terms of downforce level so we will see.
“This is a great weekend for the team. It’s a good 25 points and if we can keep fighting for victories like this, there’s still a small chance that I can really fight for that championship.”
