Chelsea’s John Terry ruled out of England qualifier against Ukraine
John Terry is ruled out of England's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday because of an ankle injury, the FA confirms

John Terry has been ruled out of England’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ukraine due to an ankle injury, the Football Association have confirmed.
The Chelsea defender suffered the setback during the Three Lions’ 5-0 victory over Moldova in their Group H opener on Friday.
The 31-year-old had hoped to feature against England’s Euro 2012 opponents, but the FA revealed the former captain would not be fit in time for the Wembley fixture on Tuesday.
A FA statement read: “Following further treatment from the England medical staff today [Sunday 9 September], John Terry will not be available for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday.
“Terry suffered an ankle injury in the game with Moldova, and has returned to his club.”
Terry moved into England’s midfield against Moldova following the injury with 20 minutes remaining, before eventually leaving the pitch in the closing moments of the win.
On Saturday, Hodgson had praised the centre-half’s commitment in Friday’s victory, while remaining optimistic the Chelsea skipper would be fit for the Ukraine game.
“I’d liked to have taken him off, and we did suggest we’d play with 10,” said Hodgson.
“He’s a warrior though, so he poo-pooed the suggestion he should come off with 20 minutes to go.
“He took a kick on the ankle in the first half and then twisted it slightly when he landed in front of the bench in the second half. They’re assessing him at the moment.
“It’s obviously not a very serious injury, but every knock is important with only three days between games.” ![]()
