Jordan Henderson admits it has been a “whirlwind” start to his Liverpool career after moving to Anfield last summer.

The 22-year-old has struggled to break into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team since the Northern Irishman replaced Kenny Dalglish as the Reds manager in May.

But the former Sunderland midfielder, who joined Liverpool in a £20m deal, is still happy at the Merseyside outfit and is determined to improve over the coming season.

“It’s been a whirlwind 12 months, but I have really enjoyed it and learned a lot of things on the way,” Henderson told the club’s website.

“I am still learning and if I can carry on doing that then hopefully the next 12 months and beyond will be even better.”

He added: “I am starting to feel a bit older with the young lads coming in but I have still got a long way to go and a lot to learn.

“I think I will just keep working hard, keep my head down and hopefully I can become a better player.”

Henderson also heaped praise on his Liverpool team-mate Jonjo Shelvey after the former Charlton Athletic midfielder inspired England’s Under-21 side to a 2-0 victory over Azerbaijan.

“Jonjo was very good,” said Henderson. “He played just off the striker and got on the ball a lot. He made some good passes and played a big part in both of the goals, setting up the first and scoring near the end.

“I thought he was brilliant. He’s been like that throughout pre-season at Liverpool, so I hope he can carry on like that.”
