Brendan Rodgers described Liverpool’s performance as “outstanding” after the Reds secured their first Premier League win of the season at Norwich City.

Luis Suárez opened the scoring within 90 seconds as he beat John Ruddy from the edge of the area, before adding a second just before half-time.

The visitors ensured there would be no second-half comeback when Nuri Sahin netted two minutes after the restart, before Suárez completed his hat-trick with a low finish.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard scored a fifth for Rodgers’ side, while Steve Morrison and Grant Holt added consolation goals for the Canaries, who now drop into the relegation zone.

“The team was outstanding,” Rodgers told BBC Sport. “I’m not surprised because in a lot of our games we have played very well and created a host of chances.

“It’s just our conversion rate has not been as good. But today we were fantastic. For us to score five goals and play like we did was outstanding.”

Norwich manager Chris Hughton, who replaced Paul Lambert in the summer, was critical of his side’s performance which was undermined by defensive errors.

“It’s a bad day for us,” said Hughton. “You can’t afford a very clinical Liverpool side the chances we gave them today.

“We’ve made some bad mistakes. We have added to our own downfall and that is what has disappointed me.”
