Young Boys v Liverpool: Borini eyes victory ahead of Man Utd clash

Fabio Borini believes Liverpool would be full of confidence for their clash with Manchester United if Brendan Rodgers’ side can secure a victory over Young Boys on Thursday.

The five-time European Cup winners start their Europa League campaign with a trip to the Switzerland after a difficult start to the domestic season.

Rodgers’ side are yet to win in the Premier League, and the Italian striker is confident a positive result against Young Boys would be the perfect preparation for Sunday’s showdown.

“Positive results always give us confidence,” Borini told Liverpool’s website.

“They give anyone confidence. Even playing away, getting a point or a good performance would be a good start for the game on Sunday.”

The 21-year-old insisted the Europa League is a strong competition despite playing a perceived supporting role to the Champions League.

And Borini believes the chance to face the winners of Europe’s premier club competition in the Super Cup next August acts as an added incentive to win the Europa League.

“I think it’s a great competition to play because it’s really close to the level of the Champions League,” he added.

“I think it’s got the same importance because at the end the champions will play against the champions of the Champions League, which is a great pleasure.

“It’s a very good level because you can see it has got many teams that won the league as well or just came third.”
