André Villas-Boas insists Emmanuel Adebayor remains a part of his plans at Tottenham Hotspur despite the striker’s lack of playing time this season.

The Togolese forward sealed a permanent switch to White Hart Lane this summer after impressing during his loan spell from Manchester City but is yet to start a game for Spurs this season.

The 28-year-old striker’s failure to keep Jermaine Defoe out of the side has led to reports linking him with a January move away from north London – but Villas-Boas insists Adebayor will get his chances in the coming months.

“Obviously, every player wants to play. At the moment we are using the structure of one striker and Defoe has been doing extremely well,” Villas-Boas told Sky Sports.

“I think Ade has done extremely well in the games where he has come in for the squad, certainly he is in contention for games where we play with two strikers.

“At the moment we haven’t found the comfort in that formation yet, but in the future when we use it, when we rotate the strikers he will be back in contention.”

Tottenham are currently fifth in the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s trip to Southampton.
