Frasier Forster earned the plaudits as Celtic almost pulled off a Champions League upset against Barcelona until Jordi Alba’s late winner at Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, Javier Hernández netted twice for Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson’s men came from behind to seal a 3-2 victory over Braga at Old Trafford, while Chelsea lost 2-1 in Donetsk.

Here are some of the Tweets from the professionals on a busy night of European football.

England legend Gary Lineker ‏(@GaryLineker) cannot believe a crazy start: “Yikes! Both Manchester United and Chelsea are behind. All very predictable so far. Celtic have gone one up in Barcelona.”

Everton’s Shane Duffy (‏@ShaneDuffy34) is stunned as United fall 2-0 behind at Old Trafford: “United wow! What are you doing?”

Former Bradford manager Chris Kamara ‏(@chris_kammy) gets to use his favourite catchphrase: “Javier Hernández with a goal back, it’s 1-2 game on! Celtic fighting like Beavers over in Barca!”

Ex-Aston Villa star Ian Taylor (‏@IanTaylor7) hails Andrés Iniesta’s leveller against Celtic: “Just in to see the #Barca goal against #Celtic! I was in shock with the score line but then #Iniesta does that! #pureclass”

While Swansea winger Wayne Routledge ‏(@WayneRoutledge) was also impressed: “Just so you know that goal, was unreal… #SensibleSoccer #Unstoppable #FCB”

Ex-Southampton man Jason Euell (‏@jasoneuell) praises Tom Cleverley for setting up Hernández’s winner: “Tom Cleverly’s cross for United’s winner. Whippage = #Tekkers!”

Ajax striker Ryan Babel (‏@RyanBabel) is optimistic for Celtic: “Celtic for the winner? What do you think? #BarCelt”

However, ex Rangers winger Vladimir Weiss ‏(@VladiW7) enjoys seeing Jordi Alba’s winner: “Hahahahahahahaha off you pop:) Have a good trip home:)#barcavsceltic”

Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore (‏@StanCollymore) praises Celtic for their effort: “Unlucky Celtic. Credit to the club, their fans and country tonight. Super effort.”

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given ‏(@No1shaygiven) hails Fraiser Forster’s display: “That was a kick in the teeth for everyone connected with @celticfc. Gutted for them all. @FraseForster was on fire as well. #GreatSaves”

Former Celtic striker John Hartson ‏(@JohnHartson10) backs up Given: “What a brilliant effort from Celtic tonight, to a man, they gave everything.. Really cruel on them..”

Ireland international James McCarthy (‏@JamesMcCarthy_4) is disappointed for the Hoops: “Gutted for Celtic, so unlucky!”

Finally, Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fàbregas (‏@cesc4official) admits it was a tough test: “It’s been painful! Until the last minute we were breathless… this victory is very important for us!!!”
