Ashley Cole has been fined £90,000 and warned over his future conduct after he used an expletive on Twitter to describe the Football Association following the John Terry racism case.

The Chelsea left-back admitted an FA charge in relation to the comment made earlier this month, which was deemed “improper and/or brought the game into disrepute”.

Responding to the FA’s judgement in the Terry racism case, Cole tweeted: “Hahahahaa, well done #fa I lied did I, #BUNCHOFTW**S”.

The defender quickly deleted the post and issued an “unreserved apology”.

The fine is the largest ever given out by the FA in relation to social media.

Cole, 31, escaped a ban after he made a personal apology to FA chairman David Bernstein.

“He apologised publicly the day after. He saw me last night and he apologised personally,” Bernstein said. “He showed real remorse. I looked him in the eye and I accept that. He is free to play for England.”

Cole, who sat out last week’s World Cup qualifier against San Marino, played the full 90 minutes of England’s 1-1 draw with Poland in Warsaw on Wednesday afternoon.
