Chelsea transfers: Radamel Falcao won’t be leaving, says Atlético chief

Radamel Falcao will not be leaving Atlético Madrid even if the striker’s £45m contract release clause is met, according to the Spanish club’s president Enrique Cerezo.

The Colombia international has been the subject of rumours linking the 26-year-old with a move away from Vicente Calderon in January, with Champions League winners Chelsea reported to be interested.

However, Cerezo insisted the former Porto man is happy at the Europa League holders and Atlético have no plans to cash-in on the striker, who has scored eight La Liga goals this season.

“If someone comes with the money and meets the clause, the player does not have to leave,” said Cerezo.

“I don’t think this is a matter for discussion, it is an issue that is there. But Falcao is a very serious person, he is a man who knows what contract he has, what situation he is in.

“He is in a team that wants him, he is delighted and above all he scores goals. He is very pleased and happy here, and until proven otherwise he will remain Atletico Madrid.”

Last week, Diego Simeone insisted he is not concerned about Falcao’s future, with the Atlético boss confident the striker will remain at the club.

“Radamel excites you,” Simeone told Rock and Closs. “All that happens with him is not accidental. He looks for things, he wants things and he trains to be the best.

“I think he knows that this is an important time and I am convinced that right now he is at a club that is stronger than any other.

“I am not thinking of when he will go. It’s like anything else in that you have to enjoy it, live it, and whatever else happens will happen.”
