Demba Ba scored a late own goal as Sunderland secured a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in the later kick-off, Junior Hoilett’s second-minute opener was cancelled out by Julio Cesar’s unfortunate own goal to help Everton snatch a point at Queens Park Rangers.

Here is the best of the reaction from the professionals on Twitter after an exciting day of Premier League action.

Newcastle striker Demba Ba ‏(@dembabafoot) felt a point was a good result: “To draw that game with one man down after 25 minutes, I would have taking it. Proud of the team and the effort we produce…”

Magpies goalkeeper Tim Krul (‏@TimKrul) is pleased to return to action and avoid defeat: “Buzzing to be back playing. We Showed some fantastic spirit today, not easy to play with 10 men for 70 minutes.. Proud to be a Geordie..#nufc”

Newcastle defender Danny Simpson (‏@dannysimpson) is proud of their display: “Just want to say I’m proud of my team and our fans today! Down to 10 men and we showed our spirit and the fight to get a point and maybe should have won!”

Former Newcastle heroes Warren Barton ‏(@warrenbarton2) and Nolberto Solano both agree Chieck Tiote’s sending off was avoidable: “@NolbertoSolano: ‘Silly tackle by Tiote and he will know. But well done to lads 10 v 11 is not easy and we almost did it.’ I’m with you my friend..”

Ex-Sunderland star Michael Gray (‏@mickygray33) felt it was a good result for both sides: “Fair result in the end… Newcastle better in the first half and Sunderland better in the second…!!!”

England legend Peter Reid ‏(@reid6peter) was impressed by Newcastle’s Fabricco Coloccini: “Coloccini was outstanding!”

Swansea defender Ashley Williams (‏@AshWills84) heaps praise on Everton duo: “Love watching Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin play! Different class!”

Marseille midfielder Joey Barton ‏(@Joey7Barton) is enjoying watching his QPR team-mates in action: “Good game this so far. Harsh sending off that for Steven Pienaar. QPR have to win this now. Three points needed…”

Everton captain Phil Neville (‏@fizzer18) is pleased with a point at Loftus Road: “Tough game good point – game where we need back four to be at their best- and they were! Was it a sending off? Should we have had a penalty? That’s football!”

Gary Neville (@GNev2) wants to know how his brother is getting home: “@GNev2: @fizzer18 How are you getting back?” I’m walking after that 1st goal rest r on train!!”

Everton’s Shane Duffy (‏@ShaneDuffy34) is impressed by Everton’s centre-half pairing: “Good point considering what happened during the game. The lads fought hard. Jagielka and Distin were brilliant. Don’t get much better!!”

QPR owner Tony Fernandes ‏(@tonyfernandes) is tired of the negative comments on Twitter: “Stop wasting your time and energy on negative tweets. QPR needs time and stability. We have great squad, great squad, great manager, great CEO. Takes time and a bit of luck. See you at The Emirates.”

Finally, former Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray (‏@MattMurray20) wants to know what the players who boycotted the Kick It Out t-shirt are doing to kick racism out of the game: “Lots of players won’t wear the t-shirt which is their choice. I want to know what these players are doing themselves to tackle racism.”
