Tim Bresnan described Kevin Pietersen’s return to England duty as “business as usual” after day one of their first warm-up match against India A in Mumbai.

The tourists restricted India A, led by Suresh Raina, to 369-9 at the close of play despite the opposition being six down for 190.

“It’s just like having someone who’s been injured coming back into the side,” Bresnan told BBC Sport.

“It’s pretty much business as usual. He’s the same old Kev.

“I’m pretty sure most of the lads in the dressing room were expecting it to be like that – and that’s what it was like.”

Even though England lost Steven Finn to a thigh injury after he bowled just four overs they looked sure to dismiss India well before the close when they were 190-6 in the 47th over.

However, a dogged seventh-wicket stand of 110 between Manoj Tiwary and Irfan Pathan made sure England had to wait until day two before they can begin batting.

Tiwary, coming in at number six, scored 93 off 201 balls to give India’s selectors a timely nudge ahead of next month’s first Test.

“Obviously, we’re disappointed one of our fast bowlers had to go off,” said Bresnan, who took 3-59 from 20 overs.

“But it’s one of those things where you just have to step up a bit, and each of you has to take on his responsibility.

“We’re not sure what’s happening. The doc will check him out back at the hotel.

“All we know is it’s hurting, and scans will reveal more,” added Bresnan.
