Michael Owen admits he is desperate to be fit for Stoke City’s trip to Manchester United later this month.

The 32-year-old striker moved to the Britannia Stadium this summer after being released by the Red Devils following a three-year stint at Old Trafford.

Owen missed Stoke’s visit to former club Liverpool last week after suffering a slight groin strain in training.

But the former England international is keen to make it back in time for the Potters’ trip to Old Trafford on 20 October.

“I was looking at it thinking Liverpool away and Manchester United away, it was going to be an interesting October,” said Owen.

“Obviously I missed the first one but I am desperate to be fit for the second one.

“The lads are playing out of their skin at the moment so it’s hard to get in the team, but my fitness is coming week by week and I am really excited about the challenge ahead.”

Owen has made two appearances for Tony Pulis’ men since joining Stoke this summer.
