Mark Hughes felt referee Jonathan Moss missed a “stonewall penalty” in the second half after Queens Park Rangers were held to a draw by Everton at Loftus Road.

Junior Hoilett helped the west London side make the perfect start after two minutes when he ran the length of the pitch before his finish was deflected past Tim Howard.

However, Everton responded just before half-time, with Sylvain Distin’s header hitting the post and rebounding into the net off QPR goalkeeper Julio César.

The Hoops were denied a spot-kick in the 82nd minute when Seamus Coleman’s clumsy challenge on Hoilett went unpunished as Hughes’ side were forced to settle for a “good point”.

“Overall I thought some of our play was excellent, we had a stonewall penalty that was ruled out, when the referee sees it he will wonder why he hasn’t given it. That hurt us,” said Hughes.

“The little details are hampering us at the moment. People saw we are a good football side, we like to get the ball down and play in a positive manner and overall our performances have been good.

“It’s a good point today, that gives us confidence to go on and build from here.”

QPR goal-scorer Hoilett, who started his first Premier League game in October, is hoping the draw can as a springboard for the Loftus Road outfit to move out of the bottom three.

“We played well during the match and were unlucky not to get the three points we needed,” Hoilett said.

“But we will take a point and push on to keep getting more points on the board.

“Everton made it hard for us. They got everyone behind the ball it was hard to breakthrough. But we had a few chances but we are happy with a point.

“It is still the early stages of the season. We are working hard every day in training. You can see how we are gelling as a team and later in the season we will get the points we need.”
