QPR manager Mark Hughes aiming to replicate Everton’s model

Mark Hughes believes Queens Park Rangers should try to emulate Everton’s philosophy ahead of the Toffees’ visit to Loftus Road on Sunday.

The QPR manager has come under pressure in recent weeks after a winless start to their Premier League campaign despite 11 summer signings.

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has been linked with Hughes’ job, but the Welshman does not believe change would solve the club’s current predicament.

The 48-year-old pointed to Everton’s success during David Moyes’ 10-year reign at Goodison Park, and Hughes insists stability is what QPR need at the present time.

“Longevity is vital for a club. Certainly for one in our position which is only its second season after coming up from the Championship,” said Hughes.

“You need that continuity of players and management to enable you to grow as a group. Chopping and changing personnel is difficult, you need that understanding of how people work, standards and what’s expected. That needs to be introduced over a longer period then we’ve had at the moment.

“We just need to be calm and try to understand what we’re trying to do, and we’re confident that at some point we’ll start picking up points.

“The game at the weekend is a test. The vast majority of teams we have faced so far have been in the top half, or started brightly.

“A case in point is Everton. They’ve had a really bright start to the season so it will be a tough test again.

“But we’ve done the work going into the game and we’ve got people back from injury, so I fully expect a good game against good opposition. We hope it’s a better outcome for ourselves in terms of results.”
