David Moyes has admitted his interest in signing Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland, although the Everton boss hasn’t made a move for the England international.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Everton and Liverpool, since breaking through at the St Andrew’s outfit in 2010.

Tim Howard is currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Everton, but Moyes admitted he is keeping a close eye on Butland as he searches for a long-term replacement for the American.

“You are always planning for who is the next Nigel Martyn, who is the next Tim Howard,” said Moyes.

“We are always looking to see who that next one would be. You have to do that.

“We have asked a couple of times about Jack Butland, but not recently.”
