Alan Pardew admits Newcastle United should have signed more players in the the summer transfer window.

The Magpies were linked with a host of big names during the off-season, including the likes of Mathieu Debuchy, but Vurnon Anita was the only new senior player to arrive at St James’ Park.

Newcastle are currently in a miserable run of form in the Premier League, with Pardew’s side having slumped to six defeats in their last seven outings, leaving them in 15th place in the table.

And the Newcastle boss, who is widely tipped to be forced to sell Demba Ba during the January transfer window due to a release clause in the striker’s contract, admits his side could have done with further reinforcements in the summer.

“Myself, Mike [Ashley and Derek [Llambias] all agree we should have brought one more senior player in here. For whatever reason, it did not happen,” said Pardew.

“We have learnt from that, and that is what comes from the luxury of the security of the owner.”

Asked about his January transfer plans, he replied: “It is a difficult window but I think we would like to get one player in and not lose anybody.”
